1/16 Off

Sigh.  I keep getting these seams 1/16 of an inch off despite what I do.  I even tried hand piecing and came up short.  I don't get it.  I know it's not the machines or the 1/4 inch feet.  I just can't find the right adjustment to make this work and it's driving me crazy.  I give up for now.

I was having a tough time getting a good 1/4" seam. I have found a couple of notions that have helped. You might try Seamingly Accurate by Jen over at ReannaLily Designs. The other is Clearly Perfect Angles by New Leaf Stitches.

You could always just cut out larger pieces, sew, then trim back to the right size.
Labour intensive I know, but it works.

I have been drawing myself a line when I do half square triangles but I have to sew on the inside of the line not directly on top of the line or I am off by about 1/16.

I have the same trouble. Like Crafty Main Mom, I sew next to the line and things come out right...instead of sewing on the line. However, I have also found making them bigger and trimming down is a nice alternative. My favorite method is sewing with the triangle papers, like Triangulations, the papers from Edyta Sitar of Laundry Basket Quilts, and the like. Mine come out perfect every time with those. It's the only really reliable method for me.
