UFO's

I'm going to get brave and work with Jen and do the UFO thing.  I went through my closet and pulled out stuff.

My reasons for UFOs:

1.  I got bored with a technique
2.  Before I got my new machine I hated fighting the other one
3.  I found something more interesting to start
4.  I couldn't figure something out and was too frustrated to continue
5.  I got bored
6.  I screwed up somewhere and my OCD would go haywire.
7.  I get scared of making a mistake.  Especially if it's an expensive or hard to find fabric project
8.  I'm stuck on a quilting idea and need time to think it out.
9.  I got bored
10.  I suddenly got intimidated as someone else did it better.  Fear of failure or being laughed at

My UFOS

1.  My Blue/White Embroidered Quilt.  It needs beautiful quilting and I haven't figured out the perfect design.  I keep going over and over it in my mind, but nothing.

2.  My Compass quilt.  Again, needs the perfect quilting in the compass points and the binding done.

3.  My machine applique quilt.  I cut the bottom side short (OCD problem) and it's a quilting issue.

4.  My husband's quilt he picked out.  Needs backing and batting.  He got picky about the backing and I haven't ordered the backing yet.

5.  My Rambling Rose Quilt.  For some reason the directions don't work in the book and I really need to sit down and figure out the measurements.  It seems like way too much work.  And for some reason I despise the colors.

6.  Embroidered Napkins.  I just need to do it.

7.  My skirt.  Scared of making a mistake

8.  My Carousel Horse quilt.  Needs backing and quilting.

9.  A Lone Star top that I found.  Same problem my friend Anita had.  It needs the sides fixed.  A friend wanted me to make it for him.  I made it before knowing how to do one and I don't know if I can even find the exact fabrics after 4 years.

10.  My Aquamarine Ambience quilt.  It scares me to death.  The fusible fleece isn't cheap.  If you don't have it marked right you can mess up the entire block and may not know it until you get to the last couple of designs.  Then you've ruined the block.  I'm still scared of my embroidery machine too.  I keep waiting for it to explode on me.

I hear you. I had one UFO which I started quilting and gave up because I could not do free hand motion. So I offered it to somebody for free, and they were more than happy to take it. As for your #10 reason, you should not ever be intimidated because someone else did it better. Just make sure they don't see it... :). Now get cracking on your UFO's, I expect at least 1 of them to be done by the end of this month.

(Clearing my throat and ready to give you some tough love)

#10. Bethany, you've got to stop comparing your quilting with others and worrying about yours being good enough. I can understand the fear with embroidery, one small move and its messed up. But quilting and piecing? I think you are much, much too hard on yourself. Everything I've ever seen you post about is nothing short of beautiful and awesome workmanship. Doing your best means so much more than doing it perfect to meet someone elses standards. You are constantly trying new things and completely different techniques which is a lot more than I can say for even myself. I think you are one of the only people I know who can draw a design on a quilt and free motion it without a quilting frame and have it look awesome. I'm too terrified to even try that.

Ok, this tough love session is over!!

I totally agree with your other reasons they became UFO's, mine are ufos for the same reasons. :)

Get your fusible fleece from Joann's when it's 50% off. They have it on sale every month or so. And you can order it online if you don't have a store close to you.

As for the skirt - get some very cheap muslin and make a tester. I did that with the pants that I make and now I know that the pattern I have will work for any fabric that I get. Plus, you aren't ruining really expensive pattern if it isn't sized right.

That's quite a list you have! I look forward to seeing you whittle away at it!

Great list! It's time to finish up those projects. I'm so jealous of the horse one you just did. I'm scared of the wolf one I have from the same company. Do what you are comfortable with, step outside the box once in a while to learn something new, and don't let anyone intimidate you. You'll finish all these up in your own time, but no time like the present! Have fun with Waun-a-Finish.
