LED Light And Bernina Box

Apparently when you buy the overpriced LED light, the installation pictures aren't worth the money and I screwed up.

Yeah.  I know you are thinking, "Geesh lady, just stick it on the side of your machine.  How hard can that be?"

The sticking it isn't hard.  I got that part.  It's where you PLACE the light that matters and I screwed that up.  Of course for your 50 bucks, they don't bother to INCLUDE an extra mount or make it repositionable.  That would make it cost more.  IT doesn't come off without help either.

The crappy pictures made it look like you had to place it where the tab could stick out.  It needs placed down and to the front  Once I use the goo-gone crap, I'm done for.  My outlet is over to the left so putting the cord through the clips is useless.

And to make things even more complicated, I bought a Bernina accessory case and it doesn't fit behind my machine.  Do they make smaller ones for the activa line?  Probably not.  It would be too easy.

Stupid case should only be about 15 bucks and I paid a fortune for it.  I may be making another trip to Lincoln tomorrow to return it.  I can just keep everything in the accesory pouch.  It's not worth 65 bucks even if they had one that does fit behind the machine.  Yep.  You read that right.  65 bucks.  Now you can say "Geesh lady.  You really are pathetic" and I'll agree.

I give up for now.  It's 10:30 and I'm cranky.

I feel your pain about the light placement. Fortunately before I stuck mine on, a friend warned me that she wished she had mounted hers differently so I stuck mine on with duct tape before I found it's permanent location. I'm going to send you an email with a photo. You can buy an extra mounting bracket (still irritating I know). I think my placement is still not perfect as it sometimes reflects off the presser foot when using a silver one. Good luck!

I didn't even know that they made these. I just use an Ott light that's a floor model. It stands behind my machine and I can reposition it to whatever angle I need depending if I'm doing applique or piecing or just regular sewing. Maybe that's an idea. I looked at those accessory cases to but opted to pass. I bought a small organizer (maybe 5 x 3")and it fits the feet in perfectly. The rest of my stuff goes in the red pouch. I hope you get it worked out so it works for you.

P.S. The Ott light was at JoAnn's on a 50% off coupon with another 10% off my entire purchase so it made it extremely affordable! After three years the light bulb still hasn't even worn out!

I have an Ott light too (on sale) and love it. I got the table model that bends in the middle. I lay it flat in the short arm of my machine pointing left at the presser foot. I never would have thought of using it this way, but I bought a Sally Collins video on Precision Piecing, and it was one of her tips. I thought it would be in the way, but I love it there. The only time I take it out is when I'm stippling, because then I need the extra room.

I would definitely take back the case. I have a Bernina too, and they are supposed to make sure that everything actually works with your machine.

Good luck!

Don't have either the LED or Ott light, but do have a good idea for an accessory case. I had two different Viking machines and just wanted to keep organized with feet and other small items, needles, seam rippers. My husband brought home a couple of small plastic fishing tackle cases from Walmart. They work perfectly, they even stack if you wanted to have more than one. Keep smiling - it's Saturday!

I have one of the led lights and love it. I went to Home Depot and bought some of the double stick tape and it works great for resticking the light if you need to for some reason. Lots cheaper than buying the remounting bracket. Much better than my OTT light in my opinion

Bethany, honey, you are way to hard on yourself. I see that you got a little plastic clip on table with your Activa. I had to order mine. I about died when my local shop dealer said it'd be $100.00! I was at one of Bernina's snooty classes and didn't want to embarass myself, so I just nodded. When I picked it up a couple of weeks later, it was one of those huge lucite tabletops. I decided to keep it as I may make something bigger than a lap quilt someday. (I seriously doubt it, I don't have the attention span, LOL!) Any way, I explained what I really wanted and and got it for another $25.00! It happens to all of us.
